Nest To Nest Birdwatching Tour

Join us for a three-hour birdwatching adventure along Kangaroo Island’s north coast, where towering cliffs and secluded bays provide the perfect backdrop for some of Australia’s most impressive raptors and seabirds.

Tour overview

This tour takes in two active white-bellied sea eagle nests and an eastern osprey nesting site, with plenty of chances to spot peregrine falcons, nankeen kestrels, and wedge-tailed eagles hunting along the shoreline. The waters and beaches are also home to a variety of seabirds, including sooty oystercatchers, up to five species of cormorants, swifts, swallows, crested terns, pacific and silver gulls, and of course, the ever-graceful Australian pelican.

As we cruise along the coast, we often see long-nosed fur seals and Australian sea lions basking on the rocks, and it’s not uncommon for a pod of bottlenose dolphins to join us in the shallows. But for the serious birders, it’s all about what’s soaring overhead.

For those wanting to dive deeper, we also offer a full-day private charter covering the coastline from Stokes Bay to Snug Cove. This extended trip takes us into prime raptor hunting grounds, where we regularly witness dramatic aerial battles between wedge-tailed eagles and sea eagles. Further offshore, we scan for seabird feeding frenzies, with Australasian gannets, shearwaters, terns, and occasionally albatross or little penguins feeding on bait schools stirred up by common dolphins.

If you’re keen to contribute to conservation, there’s also the opportunity to document sightings and submit photos for research.
